Poll Results: Top Industries for Data Mining Applications

The top 5 industries were

CRM/ consumer analytics (59)	32.8%
Banking (44)	24.4%
Direct Marketing/ Fundraising (29)	16.1%
Credit Scoring (28)	15.6%
Telecom / Cable (26)	14.4%

Comparing the results with a similar 2008 Poll, we see that the top applications were relatively stable.

1. CRM/consumer analytics is still No 1, but with a smaller share (33% in 2009 vs 38% in 2008)
2. Banking is still number 2 (24% vs 32%)
3. Direct Marketing/ Fundraising moved to third place (16% vs 14%)

The greatest gaining industry was Social Networks, up from 1.9% in 2008 to 7.8% in 2009 ( 317% increase)
