Support vector machines (SVMs) have established themselves as one of the preeminent machine learning/statistical models for classification and regression over the past decade or so, frequently outperforming artificial neural networks in tasks such as text mining and bioinformatics. The Chicago Chapter of the American Statistical Association is hosting a one-day workshop on SVMs on March 26, 2010.
