Abstract: Modern games are generating massive amounts of data that can help developers for tasks such as user modeling, behavior analysis, matchmaking, or playability testing. This tutorial will give some background on modern data mining techniques and explain its application to games. Different scenarios will be covered, going from behavior analysis of individual players in first person shooter games to interpretation of millions of guilds in the MMORPG World of Warcraft.

Christian Thurau Presenter: Christian Thurau is a post-doctoral researcher at Fraunhofer IAIS, St. Augustin in Germany. His research interests are situated in pattern recognition, computer vision, data mining, and machine learning. His latest research focuses on large-scale data analysis methods that were also applied to vast amounts of multiplayer online game log files. Previously, he researched player modeling and behavior cloning in computer games.

This tutorial was presented at CIG2010, The 2010 IEEE Computational Intelligence and Games Conference
