SAS chief says global software sales up 5 pct

SAS CEO Jim Goodnight said that global sales of its data-mining products were up about 5 percent so far this year, led by especially strong demand in the Pacific-Asia region and Latin America.

SAS Oct 14, 2010 (Reuters) - The head of SAS, the privately held business enterprise software company, said on Thursday that global sales of its data-mining products were up about 5 percent so far this year, led by especially strong demand in the Pacific-Asia region and Latin America.

Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of a meeting of the Business Council, SAS Chief Executive Jim Goodnight said "everything picked up in the third quarter." The pipeline for sales in the fourth quarter was continuing to be "very strong."

Goodnight said demand was especially strong from banks, looking to combat fraud and anticipate borrower defaults and consumer product companies monitoring what people are saying about their brands on social network sites such as Twitter. (Reporting by James B. Kelleher; editing by Andre Grenon)
