Project: Transportation Networks, Climate Change, and the Spread of Invasive Species

This project examines the role of the global shipping network in the transfer of nonnative species, and its interaction with policies and trade patterns, including the effect of climate change. The main goal of this project is to develop models and understanding to limit future introductions of invasive species while enhancing global trade and economic development. The program will integrate the shipping network and other transportation networks, simulating current and potential flows of invasive species based on climate, trade policy and other potential drivers of changes in the composite network structure.

The Research Assistant Professor (RAP) will be affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and also associated with the Interdisciplinary Center for Network Science and Applications (iCeNSA). We are looking for a strong computer scientist with expertise in data mining and machine learning, specifically graph mining, statistical relational learning, and network science. Candidates who can demonstrate strong interdisciplinary research connections with ecology/climate data sciences are strongly desired. The RAP will assume a coordinating role for the program and work closely with ecologists, economists, and climate scientists. It is also expected that the RAP will contribute to, and lead, new research proposals stemming from this program.

Applicants should send a cover letter explaining, with a detailed CV, research statement, and names of at least three references to Yentl Ceballo, yceballo@nd.edu. The University of Notre Dame is an equal opportunity employer with a strong institutional and academic commitment to diversity.
