Description
The Department of Computer Science at Virginia Tech ( www.cs.vt.edu )
invites applications from candidates in data-intensive computing for a
full-time tenure-track position at any rank. Examples of research foci in
the area of data-intensive computing include, but are not limited to,
streaming and sensor data management, scientific databases, networked data
management, query languages, workflow/provenance modeling, information
integration, and database designs for modern architectures such as the
cloud and pervasive appliances. The successful candidate must be able to
conduct an active research program in the management and processing of
massive data, such as arise in social networks, biology, GIS, astronomy,
text, and/or other emerging large-scale applications. Candidates should
have a record, appropriate to their rank, of scholarship, leadership, and
collaboration in computing and interdisciplinary areas; demonstrated
ability to contribute to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels
in data-related subjects (e.g., database design and system architectures);
sensitivity to issues of diversity in the campus community; and the skills
needed to establish and grow a multidisciplinary research group.
CS@VT has 37 tenure-track research-oriented faculty including 12 NSF
CAREER award winners, PhD production among the top 30 in the US, and
annual research expenditures exceeding $7 million. There are rich
opportunities in a highly collaborative department with strengths in HCI,
HPC, computational biology and bioinformatics, digital libraries, data
mining, software engineering, and CS education. Active interdisciplinary
research also explores CyberArts, digital government, and problem-solving
environments.
