The WCAI Research Director is responsible for managing all WCAI Research Programs, in particular the Research Opportunity program and the annual grant program. As the operational lead for the Research Opportunity program, the Research Director will be responsible for executing Research Opportunity projects scoped by the Executive Director.
The Research Director should be familiar with the types of business problems that can be solved using customer analytics and comfortable with explaining the goals of an analytics project to corporate partners and researchers. Because WCAI is a data-oriented research center, the Research Director must also be well-versed in database architecture and able to plan and execute data-oriented projects. The Research Director will be able to work with the corporate partner to trouble-shoot issues in data extraction, set high standards for data cleaning, and provide clear and concise metadata for researchers.
In addition to managing projects, the Research Director is expected to provide ongoing input to the Executive Director for improving the Research Opportunity program and on data infrastructure improvements for the center. The job will give the candidate broad exposure to customer analytics functions at some of the world's leading companies and will introduce the candidate to the academic research process, including interfacing with top faculty from around the world.
- Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in a technology field such as computer science or engineering and have 5-7 years' experience managing database projects using SQL or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent communication and project management skills a must.
- Experience with Hadoop, Tableau and R strongly preferred.
- Master's or PhD a plus. Some travel to meet with corporate partners and some evening and weekend work is required.
