Connecticut College invites applications for a postdoctoral/visiting faculty position in bioinformatics at the assistant (preferred) or associate/full professor level to begin in August 2013.
The position is jointly held by the Computer Science and Biology Departments. This invitation is one step in the process of developing a center for collaborative research and teaching in the intersection of computer science and biology; the new center naturally follows the recently completed major transformation of the College's oldest building into a new, state-of-the-art science center that co-houses life sciences and computer science.
Applicants must have, or be on track to receive, a Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or related field by August 2013. We are seeking an active researcher in the use of data mining/machine learning for analyzing biological data who will engage in interdisciplinary research with colleagues and students; the CS and Biology departments place great emphasis on this type of collaboration.
Please visit cs.conncoll.edu and
www.conncoll.edu/departments/biology for the departments' current course offerings and faculty members' research and teaching interests.
The postdoctoral / visiting faculty position is a two-year position, with a review at the end of the first year. There is the potential that the position will be extended to four years and the possibility that success in this area will prompt the College to create a tenure-track position with the same focus. For this visiting or postdoc position, the teaching load will be 2/2 in the first year, and 3/2 in subsequent years. In addition to providing ongoing strong support for teaching and research, the College will provide a supplementary research fund.
We value the contributions visitors bring to our community and encourage their active engagement with their departments and all aspects of campus life during the course of their appointment. Visiting faculty are initially participating members of the faculty and voting members in their second and subsequent years; their presence is welcome at all faculty meetings.
