The Position
The Director of Business Intelligence guides a small team of analysts in the pursuit of significant insights that set us apart from our competitors. In addition, the position is a vital member of the Senior Management Team of our company. This allows the incumbent to contribute to the company's product development process on a daily basis.
Responsibilities
- Conduct applied research in the areas of classification, clustering, data reduction, sampling and evaluation.
- Work directly with software engineers who will implement the technologies to effectively transition the results of your efforts from research to production.
- Performs and directs exploratory analysis in large amounts of client data.
- Apply statistical analysis to answer business questions.
- Synthesize results of the analyses, make recommendations and assist in presenting findings to stakeholders across business units.
- Leverage data analysis to provide guidance in developing multi-channel, trigger-based direct marketing programs.
- Provide direction and insight in the development in predictive models, support vector machines and neural networks.
- Develop routine and ad-hoc reports to address corporate reporting needs, in particular for sales and marketing departments.
- Monitor fluctuations in customer behavior to identify shifts or corrective actions needed inside a customer contact strategy.
- Research and develop statistical models to be implemented and integrated in our client offerings.
- Establish key performance indicators as a method of measuring overall program success/failure.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master or Ph.D. in Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or a related quantitative discipline.
- At least 10 years of related work experience related to responsibilities outlined above and at least 5 years related experience in the marketing field.
- Knowledge of data querying, data mining, statistical programming, modeling and reporting.
- Expert working knowledge of a statistical package such as S-Plus (preferred), R, or SAS.
- Meaningful experience in building predictive models for production applications.
- Expert in classic applied statistics (linear models, logistic regression, hypothesis testing, sampling).
- Understanding of experience working with ontology-based systems is a plus.
- Clear thinker with the ability to effectively communicate concepts, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
- Working knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
