We are looking for a talented Statistician / Data Analyst to help us expand the reach of the Business Analytics initiative. LoopNet, Inc. is the leading information services provider to the commercial real estate industry, and operates the largest and most heavily trafficked commercial real estate listing service online.

As a member of the Business Analytics group, you will apply your expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, and data mining, and you will manage technical processes for some of LoopNet's critical analytics solutions. Your primary responsibilities will be to help develop new and to improve existing statistical models with a focus on solutions for the sales and marketing teams, but you will also contribute to business intelligence projects in other cross-functional areas (marketing, finance, corporate strategy, product management, web analytics, economics, reporting, and research).

The majority of the solutions you develop will require that you have above average capabilities with basic analysis tools such as Excel and SQL server relational database programming, queries and procedures; you need to be ultra-confident and adept in SQL 2k and 2005, and totally at home with highly normalized relational data. You should also have some expertise in predictive modeling techniques such as multivariate regression, logistic regression, decision trees, clustering and time series analysis and be ready to apply these to analyze operational, web, user behavior, and financial data.

While the position does not require extensive experience in sales or marketing, you should demonstrate a strong business sense and be familiar with and interested in the business needs and objectives of these and other core business functions. Since a major part of the job consists of collaboration (requirements definition, solution design, problem solving, support) with partners from those business groups, you will need to be equally at home on business teams and technical teams, and excellent as a liaison between the two.

You are the Ideal Candidate if you are:

Analytically smart - you will be exposed to and required to develop complex data queries, and rigorous analytical and quantitative models and procedures. You will be confronted with challenging business problems and you should be comfortable with resorting to complex data and analytical tools to formulate and develop solutions.

Experienced - the complexity, importance, and criticality of the business problems the team faces is such that the analytical solutions you manage and develop should also demonstrate a high level of credibility and confidence.

Creative critical thinker - on most tasks, you will be expected to challenge conventional wisdom and ask "why," constantly seeking a better understanding of the posed issue, the context surrounding the problem, and always shooting for solid, scalable solutions. You will be expected to automate most recurring tasks so that you have time to think about new challenges and solutions.

Responsibilities:

Business Analytics & sales team:
You will be responsible for maintaining, optimizing and ultimately re-training the data mining predictive analytics solution which supports the efforts of our sales team. You will be responsible for its daily operation as well as managing and building supporting tools for the sales process. You will provide ongoing analysis to ensure the quality of the model output and make sure we continue to gain insights from the statistical models (trends, sales force efficiency, economics, etc.).

Business Analytics & core business teams:
You will field data and information inquiries and analysis requests by some of the other teams we support in the organization: marketing, product management, business development, etc. and you will be involved in other Business Analytics initiatives depending on work load, priorities and interest.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience in a Statistician / Data Analyst role with a proven track record of leveraging data analysis to drive significant business impact.
  • You'll need to be an enthusiastic and thoughtful communicator and collaborator with the tech and non-tech teams alike. The ability to explain, clarify and synthesize complex projects and concepts for a wide-ranging audience is critical, both in verbal and written format.
  • MS SQL server 2000 and 2005. Besides getting to know our highly normalized database structure, you'll need to know transact-SQL and be comfortable managing and creating tables, DTS packages, stored procedures, cursors, views, indexes, etc. Advanced T-SQL skills required, and the more comfortable you are with all things SQL (2k and 2005 including BIDS and SSIS) the better off you'll be.
  • Excel is a common denominator amongst our non-tech team "clients": be ultra-comfortable with pivots, charts, vlookups, etc.
  • You should be experienced with at least one statistical analysis tools such as R, S-Plus, SAS, Stata, and/or Weka or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with the commercial real estate industry, marketplace and concepts
  • Bachelor's Degree / MS in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research or related field.
