Job Description

DailyMe's personal prediction engine (www.newstogram.com ) is at the forefront of dynamic news personalization and has already been deployed on a dozen leading news and current information sites. DailyMe is looking to hire two Data Analysts / Research Scientists (either as interns or permanent employees) to perform analysis of the large amounts of data derived from the Newstogram personalization services.

The primary role of the Data Analysts / Research Scientists will be to own and manage the design and development of analytical tests to better understand news consumption patterns, analyze performance of Newstogram recommendation algorithms and identify improvement opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Extracting and analyzing data.
• Together with our Chief Scientist and other staff, designing custom tests to analyze the performance of alternative recommendation algorithms using both backtesting and real-time experimentation approaches.
• Running diverse analysis against large data sets to identify news consumption patterns.
• Explaining and presenting results and conclusions internally and to Newstogram clients.
• Supporting our Chief Scientist in the preparation of academic and white papers on news personalization algorithms.

The ideal candidate will have intimate knowledge of computer science and statistical analysis with graduate-level (Masters or PhD) training in the fields of Computer Science, Decision Science, Information Systems, Statistics or equivalent.

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:

• Strong experience applying multiple algorithmic techniques to a variety of technical problems in areas like information retrieval, machine learning and data mining.
• Experience in implementing and testing recommendation algorithms.
• Ability to conceive, design and develop tests as well as the related scripts for data extraction and processing.
• Ability to deliver novel solutions to difficult problems in a fast-moving start-up environment.
• Highly focused, creative, resourceful and organized.
• Strong inter-personal and communication skills.
• Experience in the areas of text analysis is a plus.
• Familiarity with data visualization is a plus.
