Purpose and Objectives
The Global Business Incubator at SAP® is a global organization dedicated to developing innovative businesses targeted at meeting the needs of new market opportunities. Each of the initiatives is structured like a start-up company, consisting of a small team of individuals responsible for all aspects of the firm - from strategic planning to tactical implementation - for all functional areas. Where possible, the team will identify and leverage resources and technologies already available within SAP's expansive global infrastructure. However, independent of the source, the team must be self-sufficient since an initiative's success will be measured solely by achievement of defined performance goals within aggressively-defined timelines.

The Content Initiative is a new Global Business Incubator endeavor aimed at aggregating and supplying high-value information for incorporation in SAP's current and future applications. The goal is to create "out-of-the box" solutions for clients that generate immediate payback on their investment in SAP software. This initiative will expand upon several existing content efforts within SAP as well as new applications that require the expanded data models and analytical engines supported by this effort.

The machine learning expert will be part of a small team responsible for: building predictive models from customer and public data, developing advanced algorithms for entity resolution, and extracting and classifying information from unstructured data.

Education and Qualifications and Competencies

A master's degree (PhD preferred) in computer science, statistics or a related field.

Expectations and Tasks

• Create adaptive models that generate high-value data elements (e.g., performance predictions, behavior classifiers) for inclusion in the Content Initiative's aggregate reference file of SAP customer and third-party data.
• Develop the Content Initiative's analytical infrastructure to support development, testing, release, and maintenance of all the data management, benchmarking, and modeling deliverables defined by Product Management.
• Design and Implement a platform for cleansing, harmonizing, classifying, matching, merging, de-duping, and profiling customer and third-party data for use within the Content Initiative's solutions.
• Develop information extraction and text classification algorithms for extracting data from unstructured text such as news and blogs.

• 4+ years designing predictive models using machine learning techniques
• Software development experience (Java preferred).
• Familiarity with commercial and open-source analytical/modeling platforms
• 2+ years utilizing natural-language processing techniques (e.g., classification of unstructured content, entity resolution, information extraction)
• Knowledge of advanced information retrieval algorithms.
• Built and delivered quantitative analysis for multiple functional areas (e.g., supplier, customer, strategy, finance, HR)
• Database programming knowledge
• Dealt with large, dynamic, on-demand data files
• Ability to work successfully within small, unstructured teams
• Self-initiated, working well with little supervision
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced, multi-task environment
• Previous experience within a start-up company is a plus.
