General Summary:
The SAS Analyst serves as an analytical consultant to various merchandising and supply chain initiatives with a primary role of supporting the strategic and tactical decision-making process, specifically as it relates to leveraging statistical concepts along with general business intelligence to derive effective cross-functional business solutions. Moreover, this position will assist the Manager of Analytics with developing strategic store clusters to be utilized by all levels of the merchandising organization for building and managing product assortments, in addition to conducting and communicating market basket results and performing general merchandising and supply chain analytic support. The SAS Analyst will also be responsible for embracing Family Dollar's store-centric commitment to customers, customer service and sales.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develop business solutions through data analytics by performing exploratory data analysis, producing quantitative models and processes, and creating reports to support Supply Chain and Merchandising decisions. Further more, the SAS Analyst will be responsible for evaluating general statistics, identifying potential influential variables or relationships, and generating quantitative/statistical output to derive inferences and potential modeling solutions.
    1. Within Clustering the SAS Analyst will be required to explore each category specific scenario with the merchandising community, execute on the insights gained from the exploration, evaluate results within the clustering methodology and the business application, communicate said results to both a technical and a non-technical audience, and in-turn work cross-functionally to implement any determined course of action. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, generating cluster demand worksheets, profile reports, and sku demand reports for each category, attending both the coordination and collaboration meetings to gain and share insight with regard to clustering opportunities, as well as conducting and summarizing financial recaps of all strategic clusters that are executed against by the merchandising organization.
    2. Working with both the merchandising and marketing communities, the SAS Analyst will be expected to construct and execute Market Basket analysis tailored to requests oriented around assortment planning and/or marketing campaigns. The SAS Analyst will be required to translate results into actionable business operations. Specific duties include but are not limited to, producing periodic metrics and reports for the Ad Strategy meeting with senior executives, generating and summarizing periodic Promotional Out-of-Stock reports for all levels of the Merchandising and Supply Chain organizations, as well as to produce, analyze, and summarize on-demand Market Basket reports for the Merchandising and Marketing teams.
    3. General Analytic support of Merchandising and Supply Chain initiatives and programs will also be required of the SAS Analyst. Common duties include, but are not restricted to, performing empirical hypothesis testing, database management, and predictive modeling, and highlighting insights gained from population distribution analysis.
  2. Utilize business knowledge and presentation skills to develop and communicate technical findings and/or solutions to management in an effective forum that allows all parties involved to clearly understand how to leverage insights as it relates to their respective businesses.
  3. Attend meetings to collect and communicate business insights with colleagues and/or management in various functional areas across Merchandising and Supply Chain; more specifically this duty will allow the SAS Analyst to collect and discuss detailed project requirements such as key goals and objectives, constraints and external factors, success criteria, key performance metrics, timelines, and required deliverables.
  4. Work with the Enterprise Business Intelligence organization to develop/enhance the SAS data warehouse by collecting and formulating business requirements that will allow our team to access, manage, and present various forms of data more efficiently. Additional duties include developing SAS stored procedures and macro programs that can improve our team's ability to provide results that are more efficient, accurate, and consistent across the Analytics team.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: B.A. or B.S. degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or equivalent work experience; data analytics/statistics background required.

Experience: 2-3 years of applicable retail exposure (store and/or corporate) with 1-2 years of supply chain and/or merchandising
