Amazon.com is seeking an outstanding Senior Research Engineer to join the Targeting and Optimization team within Amazon.com's Display Advertising business. Display Advertising is one of Amazon's fastest growing and most profitable businesses.
As a Senior Research Engineer, you will be working within one of the world's largest and most complex data warehouse environments. You will be responsible for helping to build the best possible models to predict which signals have impact and which don't. We are building platforms to automate the generation, validation, and publishing of models that incorporate all available data to predict any measurable signal. You will need to be both an engineer and scientist - you will build platforms to test and measure your hypotheses, iterate on your designs, and find innovative signals and solutions that fundamentally shift the effectiveness of our systems. If you join the Amazon's Targeting and Optimization team, your work will have an immediate impact on the quality of advertising that our customers see on Amazon websites.
This job's responsibilities include:
- Initiate and execute research projects
- Develop new and innovative algorithms and technologies
- Analyze data, identify problems and potential business impact, devise solutions and build prototypes
- Apply probabilistic, machine learning and data mining techniques to build models to improve targeting and revenue
- Dive deeply into the data to understand and apply patterns while maintaining a sense of the big picture
- Understand business strategy and translate theoretical and experimental results into applications
- Work closely with colleagues on the engineering team to put your research results into action
This job requires:
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience, ideally in a consumer internet or online advertising related setting
- Master's Degree or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operations Research, Econometrics, or related field
- Knowledge of Java and/or C/C++
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Design and use of relational databases
- Strong background in one or more of the following:
- Machine learning, e.g., feature discovery, formula optimization, text classification
- Natural language processing, e.g., linguistics, text analysis, information retrieval
- Statistical modeling techniques, e.g., logistic regression, decision trees, SVMs, neural networks
- Experience in one or more of the following areas are plusses:
- Search engines and web-based information extraction techniques
- Data mining, optimization, analysis of very large data sets
- Scripting languages (Perl/Python)
- MapReduce or related parallel architectures and algorithms
