Amazon.com is seeking a Research Scientist to join the Forecasting Team. Facing many challenging and interesting business problems, we develop sophisticated algorithms based on the latest statistics tools and data mining methodologies. You will have an opportunity to work on an incredibly complex mathematical problem, with a large element of unpredictability. You will develop new sophisticated algorithms and improve existing approaches based on modern statistical and machine learning methods to impact the core business of Amazon.

You are an individual with outstanding analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and working experience with technical teams and systems. You will be responsible for researching, developing, analyzing forecasting strategies and mathematical models. You will also be prototyping the implementations.

You must have:

  • a M.S. or Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Data Mining or related fields, five or more years of industry experience (or experience consulting to industry) in predictive modeling, customer analytics, or data mining in retail or a similar field.
  • Strong background in machine learning: data-driven statistical modeling, discriminative methods, feature extraction and analysis, (semi-) supervised learning, decision trees
  • At least 3+ years of software development and SQL experience, and the ability to interact with the software development team.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
