About the Job
The Computational Advertising research team is responsible for research and prototyping of techniques that make online behavioral advertising more efficient. This charter covers a wide spectrum, including structured and unstructured data mining, machine learning for predictive analytics and behavior classification. By unlocking the hidden value in web data, you will have significant impact on our rapidly growing online advertising business.

About the Team
You will be joining Akamai's Advertising Decision Solutions (ADS) - a new business unit focused on bringing to market behavioral targeting products for online advertising. These solutions enable more precise, scalable, and efficient online advertising. You will be working with the largest Publishers, Advertisers, and Ad Networks on the Internet today.

The mission of ADS is to leverage Akamai's unique position in the Internet ecosystem - carrying web traffic for premier ad networks, publishers, and advertisers - to reduce friction and expand the behaviorally targeted advertising marketplace. ADS owns one of the Internet's premier databases of online retail behavior - over 100 million anonymous user profiles based on data collected from over 550 retail and product manufacturer web sites.

Responsibilities :

• Initiate and execute research projects
• Develop new and innovative algorithms and technologies
• Analyze data, identify problems and potential business impact, devise solutions and build prototypes
• Apply probabilistic, machine learning and data mining techniques to build models to improve targeting and revenue
• Dive deeply into the data to understand and apply patterns while maintaining a sense of the big picture
• Understand business strategy and translate theoretical and experimental results into applications
• Work closely with colleagues on the engineering team to put your research results into action

Basic Qualifications

• PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, or equivalent
• Extensive experience in statistical modeling, machine learning (clustering, decision trees, SVMs etc) or data mining techniques
• Experience in data driven methods in computational advertising, information retrieval, or other related fields
• Programming skills in C++, Java, Python or Perl

• Experience with at least one of the following verticals: online travel, retail e-commerce, brand advertising, audience measurement, financial services, marketing, telecommunications marketing
• Experience with automated text / web classification
• Experience with large-scale data platforms
• Experience with statistical packages such as SAS / SPSS / R
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
