Think you can lead and influence multiple innovative software
engineering teams as they work on solving large scale product
discovery problems related to the Amazon.com catalog? Then, we're
looking for you...
The Catalog Quality and Search Experience team enriches the Amazon
product catalog by extracting features, detecting and merging
duplicate products, inferring relationships and classifying products
with the goal of increasing product discoverability. We have an
immediate opening for a Technical Program Manager.
Were looking for a technically strong, charismatic program and project
leader with relentless focus and the innate desire to help customers
to make it even easier to discover and shop for products on the
world's greatest online store. If you have superior judgment, strong
problem-solving and communication skills, the ability to influence
people from A to Z by creating win-win solutions and the desire to
influence and deliver on Amazon's next generation technology you've
found a new home.
Merchants on Amazon.com often provide semi-structured information about
the products they want to sell. Poorly structured product data makes
supporting advanced product discovery features very challenging and
often results in a suboptimal shopping experience. We use a
combination of information retrieval, data mining, text analysis and
machine learning to solve problems in the following three areas to
improve the quality of Amazon's catalog and support a superior product
discovery experience:
1. Fact Extraction: Extracting structured facts (such as brand name,
color, size and other product features) about products from
unstructured text with high accuracy and coverage.
2. Duplicate Product Detection: Detecting duplicate product listings
in the catalog and merging them so that all offers for the same
product are listed on the same page. Poorly structured or incomplete
data makes this problem very challenging and often results in
duplicate products getting created in the catalog. These duplicate
products are shown in search results and end up confusing customers,
leading to a bad customer experience.
3. Product Relationship Inference: Discovering a variety of product
relationships (such as minor variations in size and color) and collapsing
them in search with a view to increasing search result
diversity. Placing relevant Product Advertisements on Amazon.com pages
based on product similarity or compatibility.
In this role you will be responsible for developing, managing,
tracking and delivering projects in these three areas with the highest
levels of performance, reliability, and usability. You will maintain
extensive reach across the company's various organizational groups to
ensure that new software is rolled out on time, meets Amazon's
stringent standards, and employs the most cost effective solution
possible.
The ideal candidate will draw upon exemplary project management,
critical thinking, and problem solving skills, and a passion for
creating reliable and maintainable systems. You will have already
worked in a similar space and bring your experience to bear on the
product discovery problem space. You should be open to new challenges,
extremely good at multi-tasking, innovative, creative, self-directed
and a great team player.
