eBay is a leading online Marketplace with a breadth of products available on the site. Our team is building some exciting next generation technology to profile eBay's inventory and to build Inventory Intelligence capabilities and services as part of the Analytics Platform group.

Your main responsibility will be to design, develop and customize text mining software to classify our marketplace (www.ebay.com) listings.

This is a great opportunity to apply your software development and text mining skill to real world problems that require defining and implementing state of the art techniques for mining and understanding massive amount of unstructured (free form text description), semi-structured (user behavior) and structured (catalog) data.

This position requires a self-starter attitude and an ability to handle ambiguity and working closely with a number of technical and non-technical teams distributed across the world. Besides possessing rock-solid software engineering skills and a passion for excellence, you need to be an innovative thinker, effective communicator and a team player with the ability to work with dynamic teams in an agile and fast paced environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Architect, design and implement text mining applications through all phases of the Product Development Life Cycle to build our analytical engine.
• As a Senior Engineer you will use your knowledge and experience to help determine which text mining technology to use to solve specific business problems and advance the capabilities of our core analytics
• Develop extensible, scalable, reliable, product quality software that meets the specifications and timelines.
• Interact with other teams to define interfaces and understand dependencies .
• Write detailed technical documents.

• Good understanding of algorithms, data structures, performance optimization techniques
• Experience with agile software development methodology (Scrum)
• Strong Software development skills (Java, C/C++, Python, Perl, SQL, etc)
• Experience in writing software to support I18N systems
• Experience in dealing with large volume of structured and unstructured data.
• Experience with NoSQL data store is a plus.
• Background in Information Retrieval (IR), knowledge representation or computational linguistics or natural language processing (NLP), Machine Learning (ML) is a plus
• Experience in grid computing/large scale clusters (Hadoop, Sector ...) a plus
• Excellent communication skills and ability to understand and communicate business requirements
• Experience working with fast paced environment.
• Proven problem-solving skills and track record of successful software delivery.

Bachelors in Computer Science with 8+ years or Masters in Computer Science or equivalent with 5+ years of experience with extremely strong CS fundamentals. Exposure to Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field is a plus.
