Primary Job Responsibilities

The Trust and Safety Engineering team at eBay Inc. is looking for a talented Software Development Manager to manage its Seller Standards team. This person will lead and grow a world class engineering team in a dynamic, fast paced & collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will have more than 10 years of software development experience and at least 2 years of managerial experience. Experience in Java is a must for this position. Experience in working with large data sets, Data Mining and Machine Learning are preferable.

The candidate is expected to:

Strong Leader: Lead and manage a team of engineers, be responsible for their task assignments, project tracking, performance reviews, career coaching and hiring of new people for the team. They are also required to closely work with the Business Unit, Product Managers and other cross functional team and have a strong influence on the products they own.

Software Development Lifecycle: Utilize solid background in full life-cycle software development as well as prior management experience to estimate engineering effort, plan implementation and rollout system changes with a great emphasis on Product Quality.

Technical Leadership: Define, design, and implement complex, multi-tiered distributed software applications. Segment and design system layers to support componentized and layered application development, including user interface, business functionality, and database access. Provide mentorship to team members in design and coding techniques. Analyze and design scalable, distributed, fault tolerant applications in the Windows and UNIX environments. Guide team in the appropriate use of our technology stack: Java, CSS, Javascript, Oracle, XML, data abstraction and presentation tier frameworks.

Project Leadership: Proactively identify and resolve resource conflict and set priority for parallel projects. Identify project risks and make recommendations to reduce same. Develop industry and product technical expertise.

Domain Ownership and Support: Share rollout and on-call responsibility with the Management Team. Work in a team environment.

Job Requirements

• 10+ years of software development experience preferably on web technologies
• 2+ years of leading or managing a team of engineers
• Strong knowledge of Java & relational databases
• Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills
• Good communication skills
• Expertise in object-oriented design methodology and systems development in Java and relational databases (Oracle), XML, HTTP/HTML, Multi-threaded APIs, PHP,CSS, JavaScript, data abstraction and presentation tier frameworks.
• Expertise in Data Mining and Machine Learning a strong plus
