Microsoft's Digital Advertising Solutions team is looking for a highly motivated Traffic Quality Forensic Engineer (TQFE) who understands the meaning of world-class customer service, support, and analysis. As a TQFE, you will be part of a team dedicated to enforcing high quality traffic on Microsoft's advertising networks and resolving customer issues related to Microsoft's strategic Analytics services.
The ideal candidate will enjoy solving complex technical issues, tackling new and tough challenges, and have a knack for identifying trends and patterns in data. As part of your job, you will partner with Microsoft's product groups to resolve and prevent issues, test current filtration systems and inform defenses to protect against product abuse and emerging threats. You will also represent your team on functional groups and will be expected to collect, analyze and trend data points and influence action plans to improve platform performance. You will play a key role in delivering quality service for new online analytics and advertising product offerings on a team charged with creating an exceptional customer experience.
The Traffic Quality Forensic Engineer will:
- Analyze large volumes of data to interpret traffic patterns, document conclusions and make system and process recommendations to identify and mitigate product abuse
- Develop algorithms, tools, and techniques to efficiently investigate invalid click and click fraud escalations
- Serve as a customer liaison and escalation point for all traffic quality and analytics issues, including:
- Working with customers and internal partners to gather issue information, assess business impact and resolve issues, escalating to product groups as needed
- Creating post-mortem and resolution documentation for issues
- Composing timely world-wide correspondence, presentations or other materials to partners or customers as appropriate
- Creating process or troubleshooting documentation in the support knowledge base
- Help foster innovation in tool and process development including the following:
- Submitting feature requests for future tool releases with the goal of providing differentiated services and preparing for emerging trends
- Identifying bugs in the tool set and providing supporting analysis/ impact information to product groups
- Working with internal trainers & documentation team to help develop and iterate materials
- Developing and delivering internal technical trainings to improve team readiness
- Gain intelligence and expertise in the area of traffic quality and web analytics by:
- Actively participating in blogs/forums and industry events for P4P Search, Content Ads, Analytics and/or Traffic Quality
- Conducting competitive market research
- Infiltrating publisher communities to discover and inform defenses against new quality aversion methods
- Providing industry thought leadership on behalf of Microsoft
EDUCATION & JOB EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline preferred.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years' experience in an operations, support, test or development organization, preferably with organic or paid search technologies, web analysis tools or web development, in an ecommerce, publishing network, or online advertising environment.
- 4+ years using T-SQL; must demonstrate ability to manipulate large data rapidly, use complex joins and other advance functionality with SQL for analysis.
- 4+ years relevant experience with IIS/Web setup and administration.
- Ability to reverse engineer and/or develop solutions using JavaScript, PHP, ASP.net, Perl or other emerging technologies used to creatively generate fraud.
- Strong Excel Skills including the ability to code macros in VBA and efficiency with pivot tables.
- Exceptional research, analytic, presentation and communication (written and verbal) skills.
- Functional understanding of different types of malware, adware, spam, phishing, online fraud, replication methods, indicators, safeguards, and potential effects.
- Strong understanding of internet trends and industry players.
- Exceptional Customer Service & communication skills with ability to engage with internal and external customers/clients.
- Understanding of service & support operations best practices, to include operations frameworks and SLAs.
- Solid project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and communicate task status at various stages appropriately.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE
- 3 + years experience working in a high demand customer service, support, and operations role.
- Experience with ASP, AJAX, .NET (C#), Perl, PHP, XML, Java, Javascript, Apache, Domino, ISAPI basics, and/or cold fusion.
- Experience with web hosting, administration, internet architecture including design and IP allocation, and/or analytics in technical support.
- Paid search and contextual advertising experience strongly preferred.
- In depth understanding of click fraud and foresight into emerging threats.
