Senior Software Development Engineer - Recommendations Team
This role is on a small start-up initiative within the Recommendations team. You will initially focus on building a next-generation prototype. The role will require a willingness to deal with ambigiuity and find out of the box solutions. You should be willing to dive deep, experiment rapidly and get things done.

The Amazon Recommendations team is focused on building systems and features to expose highly personalized, relevant content to our customers. We strive to help customers find what they are looking for, and delight them with serendipitous discovery. We employ data driven techniques to design innovative algorithms, build highly scalable real-time distributed systems, and continually design and build new, innovative and fun ways to interact with our customers. We leverage data mining and machine learning techniques to make sense of some of the biggest datasets in the world. We build features and services that power multiple channels including website, email, mobile apps and devices.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and 4+ year relevant work experience
• Experience with data mining, machine learning, and/or information retrieval.
• Computer Science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, and complexity analysis
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C or C++.
• Comfortable working in a Linux environment and have experience with at least one scripting language such as Python, Perl, or Ruby

• Masters or PhD in Computer Science or related field is preferred
• Proven experience building large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed systems is a plus but not a requirement
• Hands-on experience with web technologies (e.g. AJAX, Javascript, PHP) a plus but not a requirement
