POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Director of Predictive Analytics is responsible for building predictive scoring modules that will allow Student Aid Services to better serve its higher education clients via the identification and segmentation of unique student profiles. Such activities will require the individual to:

  • Provide research to help develop product ideas, leverage new data sources, expand analytical techniques and support in building infrastructure.
  • Build statistical approaches focused on improving the processes, quality and outcomes for schools and students in the higher education market.
  • Be responsible for and own the data management portion of the process while being able to effectively communicate & translate results to Executive team in appropriate business terms.
  • Act as a key member in the development of new products and strategies related to risk segmentation within the higher education market.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Designs creative approaches to predictive model development that will allow the company and its clients to better understand the driving factors of student success.
  • Constructs the architecture around the model development process and the associated data management.
  • Builds statistical approaches focused on improving the processes, quality and outcomes for schools and students in the higher education market.
  • Becomes the primary developer of statistical models within Student Aid Services and the owner of the build/test/validation process associated with each model development. These models will be used for various purposes including, but not limited to:
    • Understanding the probability of success for students within various higher education programs.
    • Identification of at-risk students and creation of financial and educational programs that will enable these students to increase the likelihood of success.
    • Optimization of the workflow for higher education financial aid offices.
    • Providing unique options for students to finance their education.
  • Lead the data acquisition, data mining and overall data management processes related to the model development responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Product Development team to implement the models/strategies. This will require effective communication/translation of the modeling results, testing and comparison of the outcomes, and validation of the resulting treatments.
  • Perform the post-implementation model assessments and the regular model validation and enhancement activities.
  • Able to collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams (legal and compliance) to ensure that all models and strategies are created and implemented in a manner that meets the required regulations and standards.
  • Takes initiative to communicate issues with project team.
  • Assists with the project management associated with the data management and model development processes.
  • Provides resource estimates, timelines, and expectations to other team members.
  • Manages the creation and interpretation of reporting/analysis connected to models and operational strategies. Included in this analysis: reporting and analysis on modeling performance, scoring trends, performance metrics, etc.
  • Effectively handles requests/restrictions from regulatory agencies under tight timelines
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree, PhD preferred, in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Science, Engineering or other related discipline.
  • 7+ years of business experience in statistical modeling for the purpose of building business solutions
  • Strong experience building logistic and linear regression solutions, knowledge of alternative modeling methodologies preferred
  • Strong experience managing data acquisition and data organization required for the purposes of building statistical models.
  • Strong project management experience desired; leading statistical resources on projects highly preferred.
  • Effective intra-organizational management and communication skills are required to manage relationships with all levels including senior management and business partners external to the organization.
  • Ability to clearly present statistical solutions in business terms (in a non-statistical nature).
  • Capacity to create new ideas for statistical solutions to address customers' business issues.
  • Preferred knowledge of how to incorporate/utilize credit bureau data, customer application, and demographic data.
  • Expertise in utilizing statistical software package(s) (e.g., SAS, R, data query tools, SQL).
  • Business related experience in Post-Secondary Education industry preferred.
