We currently have an immediate opportunity for a PhD COMPUTATIONAL SYSTEMS SCIENTIST to join the RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT DIVISION at our location in NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK.

We are seeking a highly motivated goal-oriented candidate to develop and implement computational methods for analyzing unique biological data in support of Flavor and Fragrance research. The incumbent's main responsibility in this evolving position will be initially to implement our assay management system, data repository and data processes gradually moving towards data analyses and interpretation in support of a larger Project Team that includes cell biologists, chemists, and sensory biologists. Additional duties include guaranteeing data integrity and proper data flow as well as providing analytical data sets for subsequent analyses.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement a new biological assay management system
  • Create, maintain and guarantee the integrity of scientific data
  • Provide end-user training and technical assistance
  • Develop and update custom algorithms and data analysis tools
  • Integrate large amounts of historical chemical and human sensory data with biological assay data to determine the suitability for modeling
  • Apply various statistical methods to raw data analysis and perform multivariate modeling and analyses, including Cluster, Principle Components Analysis (PCA), and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA)
  • Logical and physical database design and database maintenance
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
  • PhD degree with 3-5 years experience in Computational Biology, Computer Science , or related field with demonstrated ability to analyze complex data sets
  • Knowledge of Pipeline Pilot, InforSense, KNIME or similar, External Data Loading Tools and any analytical tool such as Matlab
  • Programming experience (e.g. Java, C++, Perl, R) and database management (e.g. SQL, Oracle) experience is a must
  • Demonstrated ability to combine and analyze complex datasets
  • Ability to work Independently and in a team environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to quickly acquire new skills and to craft creative solutions by thinking outside the box
  • Good working standards and organizational skills
