Senior Measurement Scientists sit on the executive teams of all major groups at Nielsen and are leaders of Innovation at the company.

The Digital Center of Innovation focuses on new product methodologies in the Digital space- Internet and Mobile. The Senior Research Scientist will get the opportunity to work directly with the giants of the Digital, Media and CPG space: Google, Facebook, Yahoo, Turner, Disney, Proctor & Gamble, and Kraft are just a few examples.

The Senior Research Scientist will support development of new products which may include measuring media audiences, the effectiveness of advertising, and new social networking behaviors across online, mobile, and TV. Responsibilities vary by project and can include the development and validation of weighting methodologies, integrating multiple data sources into consolidated measures, imputation, outlier detection, modeling and estimation, bootstrapped errors, editing and cleaning procedures, and specifying production quality assurance procedures for our products. This position will work with Product Leadership and Application Development teams, facilitating development along the product roadmap and providing expert advice about quantitative capabilities as well as best practices.

Graduate training in statistics, mathematics, or sciences (hard or social) is required. The position requires a detail-oriented person with project management skills who enjoys challenging quantitative work in a team environment.

This position will report directly to the VP of the Digital Center of Innovation. The position is based at the Silicon Valley Offices of Nielsen in Sunnyvale, California.

Qualifications:

  • Training or education in statistics, mathematics, computer science, operations research, or social sciences with a quantitative focus
  • Proficiency in SQL highly desirable
  • Expertise in at least one statistical language such as SAS, R, SPSS, STATA
  • Experience working with databases and large datasets
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solver
  • Attention to detail
  • Knowledge of the wireless, internet, television, or other media industry helpful
  • Experience with survey research methodology, data collection, and sample weighting
Travel: Yes, 5 % of the Time
