The Data Scientist that we are looking for is someone who:
- Enjoys immersing themselves in data and takes true delight in discovering, exploring and validating insights contained within
- Brings curiosity and creativity along with business, analytics, computer, and persuasive communication skills to the challenges they face.
- Possesses intellectual curiosity, data-oriented mindset, comfort with ambiguity, and a passion to solve problems that matter.
- Balances academic rigor and business pragmatism
- Communicates their ideas in a clear and concise manner to diverse audiences.
Qualifications
- MA/MS or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or Statistics. Ph.D. a plus
- Minimum three years applied experience in data science, or data mining and analytics, with proven success track record.
- Experience with Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, MapReduce, Cassandra.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty with a degree of maturity.
- Ability to construct stories from insights with complete or partial data, using familiar or unfamiliar data sources
- Experience with multivariate statistics (regression, principal components analysis and clustering), data-driven predictive model development.
- Working knowledge of R, Python, Ruby, Matlab, JAVA, C++/C, SQL, SAS, SPSS or equivalent
- Familiarity with experimental design concepts and practices
- Experience with pattern recognition, fuzzy logic systems, anomaly and novelty detection, and data-driven predictive model development.
Responsibilities:
- Develop modeling and decision making capabilities that lead to the generation of knowledge enabling new business opportunities for Pitney Bowes.
- Develop state-of-the-art rule algorithms to operate on very large data and to provide robust assessment and predictive value in data.
- Advocate and promote the understanding and adoption of data science within the Pitney Bowes enterprise environment as a data science subject matter expert.
- Elucidate the value of data science technologies to alternative approaches to non-expert seniors. And must be able to converse with other experts as peers and maintain a level of respect that allows effective inter-organization collaboration.
- Share knowledge by clearly articulating ideas through papers and presentations to technical staff, management and decision makers. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, conferences and workshops.
- Identify and articulate new technologies and research trends and assess their business impacts on Pitney Bowes
