The Department of Computing and Information Studies (CIS) at Washington & Jefferson College seeks a Data Scientist for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We are searching for a colleague with interdisciplinary interests in the field of computing and with a particular focus in topics of data analysis and modeling as applied across all liberal arts fields. Ours is an increasingly prominent program on campus, committed to providing inclusive classroom experiences and collaborating with other disciplines and programs including Gender and Women’s Studies, Professional Writing, Art, Graphic Design, Environmental Studies, and the Sciences. We actively invite applications from women and members of historically underrepresented groups.
Experience teaching introductory or non-major data analysis courses is desired, with the ideal candidate also having experience teaching courses in data mining, machine learning, or network science. The position also covers teaching history of technology and writing skills, teaching in our college-wide first-year seminar program, advising, and college-wide service. Opportunities exist for supervising undergraduate research, ideally collaboratively with other academic programs. This position will start in Fall 2017; a PhD in a computing discipline or a terminal degree in another field with significant computational experience is required. Degree expected prior to start of appointment.
