Rocket Fuel Inc's quantitative ad network will be driven by high-performance algorithms and reliable, fault-tolerant, scalable systems. We are hiring senior scientific engineers who can implement scalable machine learning algorithms on terabytes of data and billions of rows to discover correlations and patterns that become a part of our ad server. This is a hands-on role perfect for someone who is truly both a scientist and an engineer.

Job Functions:

• Select data mining/machine learning/advanced statistical algorithms to pursue
• Analyze tradeoffs in computation versus performance (meaning both lift and SLA)
• Implement selected algorithms in production, using streaming & grid computing infrastruture
• Implement in a metadata-driven, configurable, automatable fashion so you can take vacations :)
• Create & maintain back-testing and online testing and monitoring frameworks
• Hire more data miners to help you!

• Ph.D. in computer science (with emphasis in data mining/ machine learning/ artificial intelligence/ mathematics / stastics) OR
• 6+ years industry experience analyzing large amounts of sparse data
• Structured thinker, effective communicator
• Excellent programming skills & experience with Java / C / C++ on Linux
• Superior understanding of algorithms, data structures, performance optimization techniques

• Broad and current knowledge in machine learning / statistics (beyond logistic regression :)
• Street smarts on modeling consumer response to online advertising or direct marketing
• Experience in online recommendation systems
• Experience with map-reduce frameworks such as Hadoop
• Experience with cloud computing such as Amazon's EC2
