Subject: KDnuggets Poll: How much do you value your personal information?

Please vote at www.kdnuggets.com.

In my opinion, part of the reason some people are upset about websites collecting their demographics is that they fell they are giving something for nothing. Some researchers have suggested that people be allowed to explicitly value their personal information and trade it to a website.

One could even estimate the increased accuracy a website would gain in selling products to a visitor from knowing visitors demographics, and some portion of the increased sales would be a fair compensation to give as an incentive. What do you think?

The second KDnuggets Poll (from March 31 until April 15) informally tests this theory by asking this question:

I would give my personal information to a website ...

  • if they just ask politely
  • if offered a $20 coupon
  • if offered a $100 coupon
  • if offered a $1000 coupon
  • never!
