Applied Artificial Intelligence A Special Issue of Development of Multi-Database Mining System and Technology

Motivation

The increasing use of multi-database technology, such as computer communication networks, distributed database systems, federated database systems, multi-database language systems, and homogeneous multi-database language systems, has led to the development of many multi-database systems in real-world applications. Many organizations need to mine their multiple databases distributed in branches for the purpose of decision-making.

It is clear that traditional mono-database mining techniques are inadequate for multi-database mining. This is because (1) both data and patterns in multi-databases present more challenges than those in mono-databases and (2) putting all the data from the relevant databases into a single dataset can destroy some patterns that hide in multi-databases distributively.

The above observations show that the effort in attacking multi-database mining problem will greatly impact on both industry and academia.
