Subject: San Jose, CA: Marketing Research Manager at eBay, Inc.

The Research Manager is responsible for helping bring the eBay customer to life through primary market research, and database analysis of customer patterns and demographic information. Research and data analysis will help guide marketing and product development to define target markets, measure efficacy of marketing, and develop appropriate new products to meet the needs of the growing user base. Specifically, this role will add the eBay consumer site behavior to attitudes and psychographics gathered through survey research. The overall output of this combined research will be targetable marketing segments with robust, detailed information about consumers overall, eBay customers, and how detailed information about how eBay customer use the site.

This position will also provide information to help the category marketing organizations (i.e., collectibles, technology, travel etc.) understand their customers in greater detail. This will be accomplished through primary research and analyzing database results by category. These results will provide a complete picture of what types of activities the customers are performing on eBay, who they are, how they use the site, and suggestions for ways eBay can increase loyalty and activity among these customers.

This position will work closely with other internal analysis groups to ensure consistent data reporting across all efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with rest of research team to provide insight and analysis to marketing and category programs.
  2. Work closely with other departments to use research/analysis results to recommend marketing strategies and process changes.
  3. Build marketing analytics based on data warehouse information to support vertical groups, e.g., Collectibles, Travel, Technology, etc.
  4. Overlay database analyses on primary marketing research studies to expand breadth and depth of research, i.e., combine attitudinal research from surveys with behavioral research from the databases.
  5. Provide lists of customers from the database to be used for primary marketing research studies.
  6. Act as project leader on several research/analysis projects simultaneously.
  7. Work with other internal data analysis groups to align output with financial and segmentation models.
  8. Explore different types of research/analysis to provide upper management with enhanced information on our customers.

QUALIFICATIONS

Background reflects:

  • BA/BS in Statistics, Economics, or Market Research. MBA or Masters degree preferred.
  • Candidate should have 5+ years of experience in market research/data analysis positions, preferably within a data-mining department with expertise in data mining and manipulation. Experience with a market research vendor is a plus.
  • The successful candidate will be highly organized, have excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong competency in SQL and SAS/SPSS required. Prefer working knowledge of advanced statistical methods such as regression, factor analysis, and CHAID analysis.
  • Must have strong analytic and problem solving skills.
  • Proficient writing and presentation skills are a must.
  • Ability to interact with all relevant levels of management required.
