SoftwareFrom: Giraud-Carrier ChristopheDate: 8 Jan 2003 Subject: Survey of Data Mining software To assist business users further in making informed choices from the plethora of available Data Mining software, ELCA designed a reference schema for the characterisation of Data Mining software tools. The full results will appear in the Journal of Intelligent Data Analysis, Volume 7, Number 3 in 2003. With this additional ressource, users are able to select a Data Mining software package with respect to its ability to meet high-level business objectives. Other tools, such as METAL's DMA (see http://www.metal-kdd.org for details) and Bernstein et al's IDEA (see http://pages.stern.nyu.edu/~abernste/publ/IDEA_CeDR_0202.pdfthen), can then be applied to assist users further in the selection of the most appropriate (combination of) algorithms/models for their specific tasks. A dynamic, up-to-date (as of Autumn 2002) database of over 35 of the most popular Data Mining tools is maintained and available freely on request from datamining@elca.ch. Thanks in anticipation, Christophe
