Job Description/Areas of Responsibility
The Manager, Risk Analytics will report to eBay's Sr. Director of Risk
Management, and lead analysis and reporting of fraud and other risks
that occur on eBay's website, as well as measure eBay's effectiveness
in managing those risks.
Key Day-to-Day Responsibilities/Skills of Manager
- Advanced Risk Analytics - The Manager will design and lead the
execution of sophisticated quantitative analyses that translate eBay's
fraud/risk data into digestible and actionable insights. This role
requires a strong understanding of analytical methods (ROI/NPV,
regression, correlation, sampling, significance testing, cohort
analysis), and the computer/technical skills and software applications
used to manipulate and present large volumes of complex data
(SQL/relational databases, Excel/VBA, Excel PivotTables, SAS), as well
as a hands-on understanding of the fraud/risk mgmt function
(predictive modeling, performance measurement of risk management
techniques).
- Global Risk Reporting - The Manager will lead the creation of
reports, analysis tools, and forecast processes that ensure global
delivery of actionable information related to eBay's risk
profile. This role requires the Manager to be expert in the principles
of data infrastructure and standard report design (database schemas,
fact/dimension definition).
- Strong presentation skills (oral and written) - The Manager will
present extensively to the Global Risk Management Organization
(including Senior Executives). This requires the Manager to have
excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex
quantitative information into presentations that are easily understood
by general management.
- Management - Manage a team of 5 Statisticians and Business Analysts
who have highly quantitative, analytical, and technical backgrounds.
The Manager should possess prior experience (ideally 3-plus years) in
managing quantitative research resources.
Qualifications:
Masters degree in Computational Finance, Statistics, or Operations
Research.
Minimum of 8 years' work experience in a relevant field,
preferably within the Finance, Risk Management, or Quantitative
Research Department of a financial institution or retailer.
Strong analytical/technical skills (understanding of RDBMS, SQL, Excel) are
required.
Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate high
energy/creativity, strong organizational skills, a relentless
customer-focus, an Education entrepreneurial spirit, strong
interpersonal and communication skills, a deep practical understanding
of quantitative methods, and superb attention to detail.
