Carnegie Mellon University's world-renowned faculty in data mining and statistical machine learning will offer a three-day summer school on "Data Mining and Machine Learning: Algorithms and Applications," June 14-16, 2004. This course, offered through Carnegie Mellon's Center for Automated Learning and Discovery, is intended for data mining professionals, students, and researchers with an interest in learning about modern algorithms for applications to data mining and statistic learning problems. The three day course will feature eight lecture sessions, along with opportunities for informal interactions for the faculty.

The session topics include:

  • Learning Bayesian Networks
  • Text Classification
  • Learning from Labeled and Unlabeled Data
  • Reinforcement Learning and Markov Decision Processes
  • Personal Software Assistants that Learn
  • Support Vector Machines and Kernel Methods
  • Learning to Detect Anomalies
  • Weighted Local Regression Methods
Course tuition is $1,900 per person. For further information, contact Diane.Stidle@cs.cmu.edu, or see www.cald.cs.cmu.edu/summerschool04/
