DESCRIPTION
Web mining aims to develop new techniques to effectively extract and mine useful knowledge/information from the Web. Due to the heterogeneity and the lack of structure of Web data, automated discovery of targeted or unexpected knowledge/information is a challenging task. In the past few years, there was already a rapid expansion of activities in the Web mining field, which consists of Web usage mining, Web structure mining, and Web content mining. Web usage mining refers to the discovery of user access patterns from Web usage logs. Web structure mining tries to discover useful knowledge from the structure of hyperlinks. Web content mining aims to extract/mine useful information or knowledge from web page contents.

For this special issue, we focus on Web Content Mining. We invite high quality submissions addressing all aspects of Web content mining. Topics that are of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Extracting structured/unstructured data/information from the Web
  • Mining the Web to build topic hierarchies or ontologies
  • Mining business or competitive intelligence information
  • Mining online opinion sources, such as reviews, forums, and chat rooms
  • Segmenting Web page and detecting noise
  • Mining for Web information integration
  • Learning and matching schemas from Web sources
  • Monitoring Web pages/sites
  • Mining the semantic Web
  • Searching and retrieving information on the Web
  • Visualizing Web contents and mining results
  • Integrating Web content, structure and usage data in mining
