The Oracle Data Mining Technologies group is responsible for investigating both new and existing data mining techniques and integrating this functionality within the Oracle database engine.

Position: Data Mining Research Developer
Location: Burlington, MA

Description

This position involves database development incorporating data mining technologies and processes as well as creation of new algorithms and techniques. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills to a variety of problems. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. The position requires solving challenging problems in different domains, more specifically:

  • Provide technical and scientific expertise in core Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery technologies: Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Multivariate Statistics, and High Performance Computing.
  • Design, specify, and develop state-of-the-art machine learning/analytical modules for scalable Data Mining engine and applications.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to integrate these analytical modules into different Oracle products and architectures including the database server.
  • Represent the company in relevant conferences, workshops, or standard's forums and follow the literature and trends in the academic and commercial communities
Some previous projects included:
  • Creation and implementation of new clustering and classification algorithms as native database technology
  • Adaptation of existing algorithms (e.g., support vector machines, BLAST, and decision trees) as native database technology
  • Mining structured, semi-structured (e.g., graphs), and unstructured data
  • Addressing scalability and parallelization requirements to handle massive datasets
  • Automation of the data mining process
  • Expanding the SQL language to natively support data mining

Qualifications

  • Machine learning or related field background is a MUST
  • Ph.D. or MS degree in machine learning or related field
  • Solid software development skills
  • Experience with time-series, sequence and graph mining is a plus
  • Experience with bioinformatics is a plus
  • Ability to adapt to different problem domains and quickly learn new techniques
  • Competency with C and SQL is desirable
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-motivated
