Come and join the team of researchers responsible for the key innovations behind the Microsoft anti-spam and the Microsoft anti-phishing technologies as we drive to make the Internet safer. The Technology Care & Safety (TCS) team's research team is the engine for innovation at Microsoft for: e-mail spam, web phishing, user reputation, and emerging online safety threats. Our team is a small group of applied researchers who report into the Technology Care & Safety team in MSN. Our mission is to:

  • Conduct applied research in the Safety space with a focus on data mining and machine learning
  • Provide thought leadership and advanced prototypes for existing and emerging safety problems
  • Maintain a strong intellectual property portfolio
  • Balance and long-term thinking with quick and flexible response
We are looking for a strong applied researcher or research software development engineer to drive innovation by: providing though leadership in the relevant safety domains, building advanced prototypes, evaluating the prototypes, and clearly communicating the results of the evaluations to the TCS product dev teams to directly influence future products - all while striving to move quickly and stay one step ahead of the spammer and phishers!

An ideal candidate will have a background in data mining/machine learning (PhD or ABD desired, M.S. or equivalent experience accepted) and will also have a strong desire to get their ideas into products and see their innovations help millions of people be safer every day. Skill with C++, C#, and SQL (or demonstrated strong implementation skills with related technologies) required. Practical skill in Anti-spam, Anti-phishing, reputation systems, and Internet technology (web, e-mail, etc.) are also very desirable.
