Job Description: The candidate will lead and manage a diverse group of about a dozen
statisticians in the Mathematics and Engineering Analysis unit within
Boeing's Phantom Works organization. A majority of people in the group
are Ph.D.s who perform a variety of research and development tasks and
internal project consulting within Boeing. The manager is responsible
for staffing, advising, and directing individuals in the group, and
for people-, budget-, and business-related processes of the group. The
manager is also responsible for interacting with other managers and
technical leaders in the organization to set overall technical
direction for the group.
Required Skills:
The candidate must be skilled in the following: exercising sound
technical judgment, taking initiative, interacting with customers of
technical products and services, exhibiting flexibility, managing
budgets, perpetuating current business and developing new business,
assessing individual performance, hiring, dealing with interpersonal
issues, delegating, working with teams, treating people openly and
fairly, and communicating (listening, speaking, and writing)
well. Demonstrated success as a technical manager in an industrial or
laboratory setting is a major advantage.
Education:
A Ph.D. in statistics or a strongly-related area of mathematics, or equivalent experience, is required. Ten or more years of post-doctoral experience is preferred.
