Subject: IEEE ICDM'06 Awards: Nominations by August 15, 2006

The IEEE ICDM Awards Nomination Committee invite your nominations for the IEEE ICDM 2006 Research Contributions Award and IEEE ICDM 2006 Outstanding Service Award.

IEEE ICDM Research Contributions Award

One IEEE ICDM Research Contribution Award will be given to one individual or one group of collaborators who has made significant technical innovations in the field of Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery that have been transferred to practice in significant ways, or that have significantly influenced direction of research and development in the field. Previous IEEE ICDM Research Award winners were D. J. Hand, Philip S. Yu, Jiawei Han and T. Y. Lin.

IEEE ICDM Outstanding Service Award

One IEEE ICDM Outstanding Service Award will be given to one individual or one group who has performed significant service to the field, which includes professional volunteer services in disseminating technical information to the field, education, research funding, etc. Previous IEEE ICDM Outstanding Service Award winners were Vijay Raghavan, Ning Zhong, Alex Tuzhilin, Shusaku Tsumoto and Xiaohua (Tony) Hu.

Nomination Process

For the Research Contributions Award, each nomination should consist of the following pieces of information: (a) up to 3 significant publications, (b) how these publications are relevant to the data mining community in general and to ICDM in particular, and (c) the broader impacts of these publications, in terms of citations and practical applications. For the Outstanding Service Award, each nomination should include the following pieces of information: (a) up to 3 significant service activities (such as running conferences and journals and facilitating data mining research, development, and applications), and (b) how these activities have promoted data mining as a field and ICDM as the world's premier research conference in data mining. At most one award will be given each year in each category. Nominations will be valid for a period of 3 years. For further details, please visit: http://www.cs.uvm.edu/~icdm/Awards/index.shtml

Deadline for nominations: Please send all nomination materials by August 15, 2006 to Vijay Raghavan, raghavan[at]louisiana.edu. The awards will be presented at IEEE ICDM-2006 conference, Hong Kong, December 18-22, 2006.

Exclusion: Since the IEEE ICDM Steering Committee will act as the IEEE ICDM Awards Evaluation Committee, people on the IEEE ICDM Steering Committee, who are nominated for either of the awards, will excuse themselves from serving on the 2006 IEEE ICDM Awards Evaluation Committee.
