Search is one of the biggest and most exciting challenges in Microsoft's history and one of the cornerstones of Microsoft's Online Services strategy. With the launch of the Bing beta Microsoft is investing heavily in EMEA driving growth organically and through acquisition, building the foundations to breakthrough in query share and take advantage of the market opportunity in Search.

Reporting Relationship
The CO EMEA Bing Analyst reports to the CO EMEA Director of Bing Search

Role Purpose
The Bing Senior Search Analyst EMEA will focus on analyses that drive Bing search volume and revenue across EMEA. Their primary purpose (60%) will be to work with the Advertiser & Publisher Solutions (APS) business unit which to optimize relevance for our users, traffic and ROI for our advertisers, being specifically in partnership with a US-based data-mining and analytics team called APS Auction Analytics and driving their activities in EMEA. This Auction Analytics team drives monetization improvements working across all parts of the organization including engineering, customer-service operations, advertising sales, and product management. Analysts will be the heart and soul of this new team are at the heart of this new team and will work closely with business partners to enable rigorous, effective, data-driven decision making. In addition to working on the advertiser effort, the Search Analyst will also work with our Consumer Search data to understand user behaviour and query mix and drive improve the effectiveness of our Bing acquisition and retention marketing efforts across EMEA (40% of time).

Core Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop solutions to resolve the analytic needs of our clients and business partners in terms of both consumer analytics and advertiser analytics across EMEA.
  • Contribute analyses related to critical Sales and R&D initiatives;
  • Contribute to the generation of reports and deliver results as necessary both in terms of advertiser and consumer behaviour (segmentation modelling).
  • Generate analyses and insights to inform senior leaders' decisions through rigorous data mining and statistical techniques.
Required Skills
  • Ability to engage business partners in a professional manner and support your arguments with deep, structured analysis;
  • Ability to explain complex analyses in a simple, straightforward way and to gather and incorporate feedback from business partners into your work;
  • Excellent Excel and SQL skills;
  • Prior experience analyzing and manipulating large data sets;
  • Expert knowledge of statistical tools like R, SAS, or SPSS;
  • Expert project management skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
Education and/or Experience
  • A bachelors degree and an advanced degree, such as a Master's or PhD in statistics, economics, mathematics or related fields (or the equivalent combination of education and experience);
  • 5+ years experience
  • Programming experience in C# a significant plus;
  • Advanced statistics knowledge;
  • Thorough understanding of database development.
