I want to convert recorded messages saved in a MP3 file format to text so I can mine the results. I tried a few text conversion tools but was dissatisfied with the results, some of which seemed like a page out of James Joyce. Has anyone had a positive experience converting voice to text from overly compressed MP3s? And if so what tool did you use?

If the mp3 files are an instrumental, what language would you like the result to be in?

I ever tried some software that transcribed mp3 to txt. But it seems that all these software do not do a very good job.

Otherwise, there is some applied field in computer science such as e-learning. You could find some applications of clustering in that field for example to cluster students by skills or learning style... this is just an example.
