Is there anyone out there who has been both to the ACM KDD meeting and the SAIM Conference on Data Mining? I realize that the KDD conference is big, and the SIAM conference not so big, but are there other, possibly subtle, factors to consider in choosing which conference to attend? (If you have to choose!) And, even if you haven't been to both, feel free to offer advice. Thanks / Will T.

Personally, I would go to KDD because I think that it is bigger and has a better reputation. But SIAM is also a very good conference. If I had to choose between attending one or the other, I would consider the location, the conference program (how many articles are on topics that i'm interested in) and the workshops (which workshop are related to my research).

I would also recommend going to KDD 2013 - this year it will be in Chicago, and expect to learn latest from top researchers.
