Forrester Wave(tm) Big Data Predictive Analytics 2015: Gainers and Losers

IBM, SAS, and SAP lead in Forrester Wave(tm) Big Data Predictive Analytics Solutions for Q2, 2015. We compare with a previous Forrester Wave for 2013 and examine gainers and losers.

Following the popularity of our analysis of Gartner 2015 Magic Quadrant for Advanced Analytics Platforms: who gained and who lost, we look at the recently released The Forrester Wave™: Big Data Predictive Analytics Solutions, Q2 2015, written by Mike Gualtieri and Rowan Curran.

The 2015 Forrester Report examines 13 big data predictive analytics solutions providers: Alpine Data Labs, Alteryx, Angoss Software, Dell, FICO, IBM,, Microsoft, Oracle, Predixion Software, RapidMiner, SAP, and SAS, and gives detailed research and analysis of their current market offerings.

In 2015 the leaders are:
  • IBM which assembles an impressive set of capabilities, with predictive analytics at the center.
  • SAS, continues to be an analytics powerhouse, and evolving with SAS Visual Analytics and interfaces with open-source tools R, Python, and Hadoop.
  • SAP, provides a comprehensive predictive analytics tools for both business users and data scientists, powered by SAP Hana. KXEN acquisition also brings new capabilities.

The Strong Performers (listed in Forrester order) are RapidMiner, Alteryx, Oracle, FICO, Dell, Angoss, Alpine Data Labs, and KNIME. Forrester says that all of them have a sweet spot that makes them good choices. Interestingly, the report says that

With better strategy scores, Alteryx, Angoss, FICO, Oracle, and RapidMiner, would have been Leaders.

Contenders are Microsoft (with Azure Machine Learning and Revolution Analytics) and Predixion Software.

Next we compare with a previous report: Forrester Wave: Big Data Predictive Analytics Solutions, Q1 2013, which evaluated only 10 firms. It seems there was no 2014 Forrester Wave on this topic.
