Watson Developer Cloud-Visual Recognition

IBM Bluemix is a cloud platform which offers both Platform as a Service and Mobile Backend as a Service. Its services include Speech to Text, Text to Speech, Visual Recognition, Concept Insights, and Tradeoff Analytics.

Developed by IBM, Bluemix is a cloud platform which offers both Platform as a Service and Mobile Backend as a Service. Five new services are announced this month, including Speech to Text, Text to Speech, Visual Recognition, Concept Insights, and Tradeoff Analytics.

The Visual Recognition service is created to analyze the images or videos.

Here is the Visual Recognition Demo.

The demo works quite well on images suggested by IBM - this tiger is easily recognized.

It is not so accurate on other images. Here is what it thinks is this picture of laughing Albert Einstein.

The service aims to save users' time by automatically tag the photos such as settings, objects, and events. If you upload a picture, it will output several labels ranked by the probability. However, the labels used are very general such as water scene, object, bar, etc, and sometimes you will get unexpected results (such as the Shoes from above picture).

People may have a general idea about the technology behind the service. It is based on IBM Multimedia Analysis and Retrieval System.

Here are detailed notes about how to create a new app using Visual Recognition.
