Put Your Best Face Forward: The New Frontier of Communication

When I started as a Head of Marketing at Domino Data Lab in 2013 I wasn’t quite sure how to craft our growth strategy. I tried, tested and iterated many different tactics until one stuck. Domino Data Science Popup took off and the industry trend was and is clear: smaller, more focused conferences lead to bigger ideas, better networks, and brighter prospects. I’ve moved to a consulting role at Domino to grow Formulated.by which started out as a digital marketing agency and morphed into professionally planned conferences boutique with a belief that the best way to spread ideas and brand awareness is in the wild.

Formulated Events

We formulate intimate conferences that focus on value and content, bringing thought and industry leaders together face to face to build new relationships and acquire talent, prospects and clients. I was delighted to receive a phone call from Jack Palmer, CEO at Plotly last year, he also saw and understood the industry trend — intimate conferences — together we created PLOTCON. After overselling the first PLOTCON (we killed it in NYC!) I was approached by one of our sponsors: Alation, Stephanie Mcreynold, VP of Marketing hired us to develop a new event series for Alation called CURATED. The cool thing is that our model is adaptable and accessible across many fields.

We’ve partnered with and have been supported by top brands like: Cisco, Salesforce, Capital One, Fullscreen, Red Bull Media, Amazon, Intel Software, Microsoft, Groupon, Ebay and many others.

And I put together a great team of advisors, too. Roger Magoulas, VP of Business Strategy and Analytics at O’Reilly Media, keeps our business strategy focused and always one step ahead. Mike Sly, Advisor to Facebook Events, fuels our sales strategy and helps us get quality people in the room. And Eduardo Arino de la Rubia, Chief Data Scientist at Domino, is our industry squawk box and data science guru. Our advisor panel is rounded out by Jack Palmer, Founder and CEO of Plotly, Q McCallum, Senior Advisor at O’Reilly Media. Together, these influencers power our acceleration and steer our success.
