About the CFPB
The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 (Dodd-Frank Act) established the consumer bureau. The central mission of the CFPB is to make markets for consumer financial products and services work for Americans - whether they are applying for a mortgage, choosing among credit cards, or using any number of other consumer financial products.
The Data Team is responsible for policies, procedures, standards, strategy and technical direction for the bureau's assets and maintaining a master catalog and warehouse.
The Impact You'll Have
As a Lead Data Scientist, you will directly impact our mission by working with the Chief Data Officer to set the bureau's strategic direction for our data environment, and drive program success through managing a team of Data Scientists. You will create strategic roadmaps that ensure our teams have a suite of up-to-date tools - coordinating with the Lead Data Architect to ensure that acquisition and management of data are aligned with our analysis needs.
In our growing and innovative organization, you will coordinate with teams across the agency to cultivate a culture of best data practices, promote cross-training, and avoid duplication of effort. Finally, you will mentor your team and allocate resources to ensure successful and timely implementation of full life-cycle projects, based on the priorities of the bureau, regularly reporting status updates to upper leadership. And - you'll do all of this while working within one of the most ground-breaking bureaus in federal government.
What You'll Get
Working in the trenches with some of the Federal Government's finest is just the beginning.
Take the next step in your career without compromising salary and benefits. Develop individuals with the skills that will be applicable beyond the walls of the bureau, while building your own vast professional network. Work on critical issues that affect the day-to-day lives of millions of American families. Better yet, enjoy some of the best benefits the government has to offer - including premium pay and the potential for performance awards.
What We're Looking For
No matter your level of experience, you must possess a relentless commitment to professional and organizational excellence. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must, as well as the demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment. You should have a proven record of successful implementation of data science techniques, including detailed methodology, data gathering, and execution of analysis and insight presentations - specifically within data sets comprised of millions of records. Successful candidates will have a technical proficiency in statistical analysis and other techniques, including data mining, geospatial analysis and predictive modeling.
