Role Overview
The Data Analytics Team serves as a part of the Chartis Research and Analytics Innovation Group (CRAIG). The team is responsible for providing high quality data and analytic support for client engagements and internal research and development initiatives within the firm. They apply advanced database management and sophisticated analytic tools and skills to manipulate large client, industry, and proprietary datasets into compelling quantitative findings for our project teams.

The Data Team Manager will serve as the leader of the team and spend roughly half of their time on daily management responsibilities and the other half supporting project teams. The team is based out of our Chicago office which is currently a team of four professionals but is looking to double in size in the next 2 to 3 years. This is an exciting opportunity for a strong manager and innovative quantitative thinker who ispassionate about healthcare to leverage their skills and interests to develop the teamand its capabilities within Chartis.

The Data Team Manager will be to lead that Data Team activities to ensure all data management procedures are executed with high attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness. Position will maintain project level perspective, focus and communicate effectively as the data management issues, activities, and deliverables. Responsibilities include:

Data Team Management
  • Understand the staffing needs of the Data Team
  • Lead the project scope discussions with project managers
  • Set the agenda and lead the team meetings for the Data Team
  • Define and take a lead role in Quality Assurance process
  • Supervise and lead team members which instills trust to help them grow in their roles
  • Track on a weekly basis the scope deliverables and timelines of projects for the team
  • Formulate, implement, and enforce the proper data collection policies and procedures
  • Deploy solutions at multiple levels in the organization ranging from data analysts to the most senior executives

Analytic Support
  • Participate in the entire project lifecycle from requirements and scope through implementation and support.
  • Perform complex analysis
  • Determine the data needed to be collected and the appropriate data resources for specific health data projects
  • Provide data and analytic support to Chartis consulting engagement teams
    • Work with client to aid data request fulfillment
    • Receive major client datasets
    • Thoroughly QA and cleanse all raw datasets
    • Build out datasets to maximize utility using advanced data management tools
    • Execute core set of analytics for strategy, operations, or alignment engagements
    • Document analytic methodologies
    • Codify datasets and outputs into client-ready deliverables
    • Perform knowledge transfer to project team / client

  • Support the analytic and research needs of Chartis' internal Firm teams and practice areas
    • Strategy, Advanced Operations, and Alignment Practice Teams
    • Applied Research initiatives
    • Chartis Forum / whitepaper development
    • Staff training and internal knowledge management initiatives

  • Develop new, advanced analytic methods and models for use on client engagements and for future development into standalone products
    • Acquire and manage industry datasets for internal research and development initiatives
    • Develop and maintain new, proprietary Chartis datasets
    • Build and disseminate catalog of available data sources
    • Refine and codify Chartis analytic methodologies and tools


  • 8-10years of relevant experience with 2 to 3 years in a management role
  • Background in a professional services or healthcare provider setting is required
  • Innovative thinker and problem-solver; capable of developing new and creative ways of solving complex problems using data
  • Must have experience managing large datasets and performing advanced analytics (e.g. Excel modeling)
  • Knowledge of Excel VBA and some programming tool such as SAS, SQL or other is required
  • Strong quantitative skills; math / computer science / engineering background preferred
  • Proficient with MS Office Applications
  • Able to communicate efficiently and effectively and be able to understand, interpret and relate a project's context to the Data Team
  • Flexible in a changing environment and to be able to explain changes to team members
  • Strong work and time management skills; able to work effectively under tight timelines
  • Ability to communicate analytic findings to and interact effectively with Data Team, consulting staff and project teams
  • Committed to living in Chicago, working out of Chicago office, and travel as needed to the client site (no more than 10%)
