The College Board, a national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Data Scientist in our Reston, VA or New York City office.

Position Summary
The Data Scientist will help the organization make better decisions using existing internal and external data. Primary clients will include SAT, Advanced Placement, and Access to Opportunity programs. Year 1 projects will include extensive work in segmentation and targeting, analysis and interpretation of survey data, and data visualization. The College Board Data Science team follows the Agile Scrum methodology, and is jointly based in New York City and Reston, Virginia.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • Work with a large & growing educational datasets using descriptive statistics and data visualization tools.
  • Create insights from existing data, and drive the collection of new data through instrumentation.
  • Work together with a small team to plan, collect, clean, analyze, and communicate.
  • Collaborate with internal clients to understand and communicate results, and to put insights into operation.
  • Create reproducible, documented analyses that lend themselves to automation.
  • Create & improve predictive models in support of Board programs.
  • Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.

 
Qualifications

Education/Experience:
  • Master's in a quantitative discipline, or a Bachelor's and deep experience or 5-7 years related experience.

 
Related Skills & Other Requirements:
  • Strong skills in R and/or Python and Tableau
  • Facility with relational, columnar, and NoSQL database systems
  • Experience coping nimbly with imperfect data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and service orientation
  • Experience with National Center for Education Statistics, Census, and/or consumer datasets is desirable.
