Data Science at eSpark

As a member of the data team, you will have the opportunity to let your curiosities run wild on one of the most exciting data sets in education. We'll work together to design powerful experiments to identify what works in education and what doesn't -- and then we'll launch the results of our findings in schools all across the country. Our robust and meaningful research has led us to partnerships with organizations like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Expectations:
As a data scientist, you'll be expected to:
  • Identify and develop new data driven product features
  • Work across teams to help identify and answer actionable data questions
  • Build incredible data products quickly in a variety of languages, including Ruby, Javascript, and D3.js
  • Manage your own time effectively to own large chunks of product

 
What you will need to be successful:

Our ideal candidate will have
  • 5+ years of experience in a related skill set
  • Computer Science degree or equivalent
  • Hands-on experience with the following:
  • Artificial intelligence using the general linear model, ensemble methods, and naive Bayes
  • Clustering via k-means, spherical k-means, and graph modularity
  • Mathematical optimization, including non-linear programming and genetic algorithms
  • Working with time series data and forecasting with exponential smoothing
  • Using Monte Carlo simulation to quantify and address risk
  • Detecting outliers in single or multiple dimensions
  • Exploring the data-science focused R language or Tableau
  • Strong background in data mining, statistical analysis and modeling
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
