Our ML applications/data products support a portfolio of 500K+ online/offline campaigns, delivering $1B+ in revenue. We support a community of 400+ end users.

Amazon Customer Segmentation and Targeting team is looking for Research Scientists (RS)/Machine Learning Engineers (MLE) at all levels. You will work with distributed machine learning and statistical algorithms across multiple platforms (AWS, Hadoop, relational DB) to harness enormous volumes of data at scale to match customers, products/offers, channels based on probabilistic reasoning. The RS builds applications and collaborates with the platform teams to further develop and optimize our ultrascale data science platform. The MLE builds applications and writes feature engineering, feature selection, machine learning and scoring workflows, and decision optimizers in Hadoop and EML - Amazon's ML platform.

You need to be fluid in:
  • Data warehousing and Hadoop (SQL, Hive, Pig).
  • Feature extraction, feature engineering and feature selection.
  • Machine learning, statistical algorithms and recommenders.
  • Model evaluation, validation.
  • Experimental design, testing and measurement.
  • Model deployment and large scale rollout.

Basic Qualifications
  • A PhD in machine learning, information science/systems, engineering, statistics or a highly quantitative field. Master's degree with 3+ years of experience or a bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience will be considered.
  • Proven ability to relate to and solve business problems through machine learning and statistics.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience developing and implementing machine learning algorithms and/or statistical models.
  • Programming, prototyping and scripting skills (Oracle, SQL, Hive, Pig, SAS, R, Weka, Python in Unix/Linux environments).
  • Writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C#, C and C++ for MLEs.

 
Preferred Qualifications
  • A PhD in machine learning, information science, engineering, statistics or a highly quantitative field with 2+ years of experience.
  • A strong track record of innovating through machine learning and statistical algorithms and their applications.
  • Strong demonstrated skills implementing and deploying large scale machine learning applications and tools.
  • Strong skills and experience with programming in SQL, Hive, Pig, R, SAS macros and familiarity/experience with AWS.
