ID Analytics is hiring for a Director of Data Science in our San Diego headquarters location!

The Director of Data Science manages a team of data scientists performing complex modeling and algorithmic tasks around large data sets. Typical algorithmic solutions are predictive risk scores, entity resolution, and very large scale complex fuzzy linking. The Director must interface across other technology, product and sales groups to understand needs, design solution paths and manage technical teams building practical business solutions. This position reports to the Chief Analytics and Science Officer.

Principal Duties
  • Manage a team of data scientists
    • Provide key technical and business guidance to the team.
    • Ensure deliverables to key business stakeholders.
    • Manage analytics tasks including data cleaning, statistical analyses and machine learning model building.
    • Maintain a high performance, engaged and passionate analytics environment that encourages innovation and personal growth.
    • Provide training, mentoring and career path development to data scientists.

  • Facilitate and lead Big Data initiatives
    • Guide experiments with new data analytics technologies to explore new capabilities.
    • Participate in the identification and evaluation of new data analytics technologies.

  • Project management
    • Develop and use effective project management procedures to schedule resources, communicate progress, and ensure deliveries;
    • Make sound technical decisions based on facts and analysis.

  • Provide sales support
    • Be aware of and personally familiar with customer environment and needs, tailor all aspects of analytics tasks (sales support, implementation, and follow-up support) to suit customer needs;
    • Serve customer's needs by presenting results that are understandable to clients and providing direct assistance to sales staff.

  • Leverage technology to balance efficiency and long-term viability
    • Develop or identify best practices in all analytic modeling tasks;
    • Provide technical support to product implementation that maximize profitability and/or efficiency;
    • Lead or encourage analytical research and new technology development to improve modeling techniques and results.


  • Master's degree in a technical field such as machine learning, computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering.
  • 6 - 8 years of applied analytics in large data business contexts including statistical modeling and predictive analytics.
  • 3 - 5 years managing data scientists, with demonstrated experience in leadership and management.
  • Big data analytics experience
    • Experience in big data applications and architectures including Hadoop and its related tools. Experience in designing, testing, implementing, and using big data analytics systems preferred.
    • Extensive hands-on practical experience with solving complex data-driven algorithmic business problems using advanced analytics approaches such as predictive modeling and scoring, optimization, or experimental design.
    • Hands-on experience building product software systems for the deployment of analytic services.

  • Strong analytical skills in project planning, technical decision making and product support.
  • Experience with distributes databases and query languages such as Hive/Pig; General map reduce computing experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with software engineering principles.
  • Experience with machine learning methodologies.
